Letter from the Director

Building a strong foundation holds true for both the homes we provide and the clients we serve.

Dear friends,

2013 marked a new beginning for many Santa Fe residents with the opening of Stage Coach Apartments, our new signature multifamily complex. The 60-unit affordable rental community features embedded social services for residents. In line with our mission to bring about positive, sustainable change in our community by helping northern New Mexicans obtain affordable, high quality housing, 25 percent of the units are dedicated to people transitioning from homelessness. Stage Coach features secure, energy efficient LEED for Homes Platinum-designed apartments for individuals and families.

Securing a safe, sustainable home is the first step in paving the way for people to attain a more successful future and become involved in their community. Studies show that stable housing is a basic human need that forms the foundation for both children and adults to advance educationally and to maintain or improve their health conditions.

Building a strong foundation holds true for both the homes we provide and the clients we serve. Our core programming – home buyer education and individualized housing counseling – leads people through the process of buying a home and illustrates how choices they make can strengthen their economic viability as individuals. When every member of our community begins to thrive, our region as a whole is empowered.

No individual organization can flourish without the assistance of like-minded local partners. The Housing Trust is no exception. We work collaboratively with other non-profits and government entities to determine the best possible paths forward for our clients to achieve safe, affordable housing. Joining forces with organizations such as the New Mexico Coalition to End Homelessness, Life Link, St. Elizabeth’s Shelter, Mortgage Finance Authority (MFA), HUD and the City of Santa Fe, we fortify our own foundation and strengthen our partner agencies.

Additionally, the expertise and dedication of our board members and volunteers in the building and real estate fields have been instrumental to our continued development. We’ve been able to remain flexible and adapt to our changing world while successfully carrying out our mission. Working together in building community – our common goal unites us.
