Buying a Home

Application Process

  1. Download and fill out our application form (note: 8½x14 document).
  2. Gather your last three years taxes and w-2 forms, three months bank statements and one months worth of pay stubs (if you can't find some of these documents, don’t let that hold you back, we'll help you track them down).
  3. Then call 505-989-3960 and make an appointment.

At that first appointment you will work directly with a homebuyer counselor who will tell you what you qualify for, and create an plan to get you on the road to homeownership.

Before you start shopping for homes the next step is to meet with a lender to obtain a prequalification.

Once you have a mortgage prequalification, your housing counselor will provide you with a list of different affordable homes that you qualify for. At this time you may also want to approach a realtor to find out about options on the open market.

Once under contract Housing Trust staff will assist you every step of the way, from reviewing your purchase contract and title documents to walking you through your closing documents, we want to be an advocate for you through the entire home buying process.
